Meet TENCEL™ Modal, our soft and responsibly sourced fibre

Softness should never come at the expense of responsibility. When looking for a fibre that delivers exceptional comfort while meeting strict environmental and sourcing criteria, TENCEL™ Modal stood out. Made from wood and produced by Lenzing, it combines a smooth handfeel, reliable performance and a more resource-efficient manufacturing process — reflecting our ongoing dedication to transparency and responsible material choices.

What is TENCEL™ Modal?

TENCEL™ Modal is a regenerated cellulose fibre made from beech wood. The wood is transformed into pulp, then processed into fibres using an efficient, controlled production method. The result is a smooth, strong material that feels light on the skin and delivers long‑lasting comfort in everyday wear

Why it feels so good on the skin?

Softness that lasts

Naturally smooth fibres create a silky handfeel that stays consistent over time. Resistance to pilling helps garments maintain their look and feel, wash after wash.

Breathable by nature

TENCEL™ Modal absorbs moisture efficiently and releases it quickly. Skin stays dry and comfortable throughout the day.

Strong, yet fluid

Despite its softness, TENCEL™ Modal offers impressive strength. It supports shape retention and clean drape, giving garments structure without stiffness.

Colour with depth

The fibre composition allows dye to penetrate evenly, creating rich, lasting colours that hold their intensity over repeated wear.

Responsibly made, carefully sourced

TENCEL™ Modal starts with wood from responsibly managed forests1. The raw material is sourced from FSC® or PEFC-certified and controlled origins, supporting responsible forestry practices.

The fibre also carries the EU Ecolabel, confirming compliance with strict environmental standards across its production process2

Compared to generic modal, TENCEL™ Modal uses less water and energy, while most chemicals are recovered and reused during manufacturing3. Lenzing’s production process is designed to reduce environmental impact while ensuring consistent fibre quality.

Why it matters for today’s market

Comfort expectations are rising across the garment industry, and so are demands for sustainability, transparency and credible sourcing.
TENCEL™ Modal sits exactly at that intersection. It delivers an elevated handfeel, starts from wood‑based, renewable raw materials, carries certified fibre standards, and offers dependable quality for daily wear.
For brands and creators, it brings a clear, trustworthy material story — a journey from forest to fibre, shaped with care and consistency.
